We are recognizing the 4-H clubs of Lexington County and South Carolina because this year the club is 100 years old. Quite an accomplishment for a club that consists of young people and a lot of volunteers.
The four 'Hs' stand for Head, Heart, Hands and Health. The organization serves over 6.5 million members in the United States from ages 5 to 19 in approximately 90,000 clubs. 4-H clubs and related organizations now exist in many other countries as well.
In Lexington County we have approximately 15 clubs with over 2,000 volunteers and club members covering a variety of project areas. We are highlighting them this year because we have been a part of 4-H for years. The goal of 4-H is to develop citizenship, leadership and life skills.

The South Carolina Poultry Festival was born as the “Ridge Poultry Festival” as a way to showcase the “egg-specially” wonderful things that at the time the two towns and community had to offer. The first festival, staged in 1987 and attracted over 20, 000 visitors to the Twin Cities. In 1989 the event, experiencing growing pains changed its name to the South Carolina Poultry Festival to mirror the stamped of Palmetto State citizens who streamed into the town to partake of food, fun, music, crafts and fireworks. Festival goers have clucked together through the ensuing eggs-travaganzas and have peaked the weekend population of Batesburg-Leesville to 100,000 plus!!!! The festival is based on the family, faith, southern hospitality, and patriotism. The steering committee would like you to see this community as one that prides itself on personal service and commitment to excellence. They would like to invite you and your family and friends to “Come Sample the South” in their charming shops, great restaurants and this "Egg-specially their exciting event as they showcase not only the community but also the poultry industry and its employees and the many poultry farmers that has and will always the focus.
