Recreational and sporting opportunities are widely available in Batesburg-Leesville. The B-L Leisure Center, located on Highland Avenue, is operated by the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission and features a wide variety of programs designed to encourage wellness through healthy exercise as well as three Baseball/Softball fields and two Soccer fields and for the younger children there is a playground with different kinds of play equipment available. If there is one spectator sport that always seems "right-at-home" in Batesburg-Leesville, it's baseball. "The Dixie Youth League" teams are sponsored through the local efforts of the Batesburg-Leesville Youth Sports and host a large number of boys and girls teams during the season. The participation among different age groups is excellent, and the support offered by parents, grandparents and friends fills the bleachers every game night. The Batesburg-Leesville Youth Sports also sponsors many rec-league soccer teams, for a variety of age groups. Many of these teams have enjoyed outstanding success at the county and statewide level for the last several years. The Batesburg-Leesville Youth Sports board of directors meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at the B-L Leisure Center. Anyone that would like to attend the meetings are invited to come.

Recently, the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission, with direction and cooperation from many local leaders, announced the planned development of a new multi-use sports complex for the Batesburg-Leesville area. For use of the facility you may contact the Executive Director at (803) 359-9961. This modern facility includes a large concession and restroom building, two adult sized baseball fields, three Little League-size fields, two new soccer fields, a multi-purpose practice field, a planned a large 40' X 100' covered shelter, addition restrooms and multiple parking areas.

Our proximity to nearby Lake Murray offers the water-sports enthusiast an endless variety of exciting options. Fishermen will enjoy one of the best-managed lakes in the entire Southeast, and Lake Murray serves as the host of several major tournaments held each year. Sailing and water-skiing enthusiasts will also enjoy the thrill of Lake Murray's big water, which is over three miles across at its widest point. Less ambitious boaters, who prefer just to take a leisurely cruise, will enjoy the peaceful tranquility of the lake's many quiet coves and over 500 miles of shoreline.

If the name of your game is golf, the Batesburg-Leesville community is home of two fine alternatives, one public, Indian Trails Golf Course (For tee times and rates at Indian Hills, please call (803) 532-9010.), and one private, the Ponderosa Golf and Country Club (For information about membership and play at the Ponderosa, please call the resident PGA Pro, Buddy Bostian, at (803) 532-3472). Both courses offer 18 holes of excellent play nearly year-round, with challenging water and sand bunkers strategically placed on virtually every hole.
