B-L Logo

The Batesburg-Leesville Water Department is another unique aspect of the town. Very few towns of the same size as Batesburg-Leesville can claim to have their own water department. Besides handling the water supply for the town, the water department also helps to maintain the streets as well as hanging the Christmas decorations every year.

The department is headed by Jimmy Boatwright and runs on a two shift schedule 7 days a week. The support staff has six full time certified plant operators as well as three other non-certified members that work outside the plant to help maintain the vast complex of pipes that run throughout the town. The support staff also helps in the maintenance of the roads and setting up of crowd control blockades for the police department.

The water plant was originally built in 1935 and served the Batesburg side of town and when the town was incorporated in 1995 it served both the Batesburg and Leesville sides of town. Currently the water plant produces over thirty million gallons of water per month.
