Lexington County Transportation Committee recently approved $50,000 for the repairs of approximately 1,400 feet of broken and damaged sidewalks along Summerland Avenue, Line Street, West Church Street, Saluda Avenue and Rabun Street in Batesburg-Leesville.
The Request for Bids packet has been posted to the Town of Batesburg -Leesville website in the Contact us second (https://www.batesburg-leesville.org/rfpsbid-opportunities) as well as the South Carolina Business Opportunities website (www.scbo.sc.gov). Bids will be opened September 21st at 2:00 pm at the Batesburg-Leesville Town Hall at 120 West Church Street, Suite B.
Awarding of the project should be conducted at the October 9th council meeting.

While there is a chance of rain in the forecast for Saturday plans are for Spring Clean B-L to happen this Saturday from 9-12. 12 church and civic groups have committed to help with projects around town. The majority are picking up roadside litter but the Boy Scouts will be helping with beautification projects at Leesville College Park. The sidewalk repairs along Summerland Avenue are nearing completion. The crew from J&H Paving and Grading have been working to repair nearly 800’ of broken and damaged sidewalks along the nearly 100 year old pathway. The sidewalk was originally installed in 1925 to aid in the pedestrian traffic of students from Summerland College (now the site of Batesburg-Leesville High School) to downtown Batesburg (now the historic Batesburg Business District). The project also made the intersection at Miller Street more handicap accessible by building up the sidewalk to road level. Work should be completed in March.

At the October 10, 2022 Town Council Meeting the Batesburg-Leesville Town Council voted to approve the bid of J&H Grading and Paving, LLC for a sidewalk repair project along Summerland Avenue. The project was advertised on the town's website as well as the South Carolina Business Opportunities (SCBO.gov) website. Council voted to approve $30,000 or repairs which is being awarded through the C Fund process with Lexington County. The portion of Summerland Avenue stretches from Miller Street to the terminus of the sidewalk at Batesburg-Leesville High School.

The Batesburg-Leesville Town Council voted 7-1 at the February 14, 2022 council meeting to enter into a contract with Joint Municipal Water and Sewer Commission on a long term contract that will secure safe, reliable water to the town's water customers for decades to come. Council also voted to hire Hazen and Sawyer to beginning preliminary engineering and design work along with surveying. To learn more please read the press release regarding this historic agreement.
