The Batesburg-Leesville Police Department is continually seeking highly motivated and talented candidates who would be interested in joining our team of highly dedicated law enforcement leaders and staff inside a proactive law enforcement agency. Your pay would be $19.50-$21.50 per hour depending upon your experience in addition to other pay incentives. Along with your hourly pay, you will also receive an $6,500 average annual overtime earning potential with an opportunity for $50 minimum pay per hour optional extra duty (side) employment.

Although not necessarily required, the ideal candidate would have an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institute of higher learning, would be an In-State or Out-of-State certified officer, and would have military experience. The candidate should have the ability to actively listen, think critically, as well as possess negotiation and persuasion skills.

All Candidates Must Be:

At least 21 years of age,

Be a high school graduate,

Be a United States citizen,

Have a valid SC driver’s license,

Be able to pass a thorough background investigation,

Be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening, and

Must have successfully completed or have the ability to complete courses of study at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

Step 1

Application - The individual submits an application.

Step 2

Pre-Interview Applicant Screening - The application is reviewed by Command Staff personnel. Recommendations are made to the Chief of Police, who identifies unacceptable applications based on occupational qualifications.

Step 3

Formal Selection Board - Applicants are notified to attend an initial interview before a board of three personnel. Interview questions are predetermined and approved by the Chief of Police. Recommendations are formulated and forwarded to the Chief of Police.

Step 4

Background Investigation - Upon successful completion of the Formal Selection Board, a background investigation is conducted by the Department for all remaining applicants. Recommendations are formulated and forwarded to the Chief of Police.

Step 5

Final Interview - The final interview shall be conducted by the Chief of Police. A conditional offer of employment may be made by the Chief of Police pending the applicant's successful completion of a drug test and physical examination. Any employment offer made at this point in the process may be rescinded if the applicant does not successfully pass the drug test or physical examination.

Step 6

Psychological Test - Applicants who successfully complete the Background Investigation and Final Interview are required to take the psychological test. Results are reviewed by the Chief of Police.

Step 7

Drug Test and Physical Exam - Upon successful completion of both the drug test and physical exam, the applicant may be hired at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
