The Batesburg-Leesville Police Department views Law Enforcement Services as a partnership between the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and Members of the Batesburg-Leesville Community. Likewise, we operate in a degree of transparency and are responsive to complainants alleging inappropriate conduct by agency employees or concerns relating to public safety. Therefore, it is the policy of the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department to provide members of the public with a reasonable avenue for any complaint or concern that they may have with services received by agency employees or the conduct of the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department. In this way we endeavor to continually improve the overall safety of the community while enhancing the standard of living for all members of the Batesburg-Leesville Community through Professional Law Enforcement Services.
Step 1: Contact the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department Dispatch at telephone number (803) 532-4408 and ask for the Internal Affairs Investigator. If the Investigator is unavailable, please provide a telephone number to contact you. Additionally, you may file a complaint in person or by mail. You may also file an anonymous complaint. Step 2: The Internal Affairs Investigator will contact you to begin the complaint process. You may be asked to provide the investigator with a written statement, supportive documentation or evidence, and additional information.
Step 3: You will be notified at the conclusion of a thorough investigation of the finding of the case. If the investigation is sustained, appropriate action will be taken by the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department.
The disposition of any internal investigation will be determined using the following categories:
Sustained - The evidence is sufficient to prove the allegation.
Inconclusive - There was not sufficient evidence to either prove or disprove the allegation.
Exonerated - The actions of the employee were consistent with the law and departmental policies, rules, regulations and practices.
